1.1          A bill for an act
1.2          relating to public safety; increasing the criminal penalty for concealing a dead
1.3          body;amending Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 609.502, subdivision 1a.
1.4          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5          Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 609.502, subdivision 1a, is amended to read:
1.6                          Subd. 1a.Penalty. A person convicted under subdivision 1, clause (2) or (3), is guilty
1.7          of a gross misdemeanor. A person convicted under subdivision 1, clause (1), may be
1.8          sentenced to imprisonment for not more than ~~three~~ 20 years or to a payment of a fine of not
1.9          more than ~~$5,000~~ $20,000 or both.

1.10       EFFECTIVE DATE. This section is effective August 1, 2024, and applies to crimes
1.11       committed on or after that date.

Essay

The first positive is that it’s better for the environment. Dead bodies decompose and smell awful so hiding one anywhere that's not the ground is a bad idea. Dead bodies also improve soil quality and conserve energy because corpses are renewable.

The second positive is that criminals are punished more. Killing someone on purpose or by accident and hiding the corpse is a misdemeanor and can land you at least 3 years in prison. Under no circumstance is hiding a corpse necessary or reasonable.

The third positive is closure. How would you feel if someone stole the corpse of a loved one? I bet you’d be angrier then your wife when you leave the tiolet seat up. Stopping someone from stealing a corpse allows the realetives of that corpse a chance at a final goodbye and allows the soul to rest in piece.

My one negative is being framed and or forced to hide a body. The only downside i can think of is being arrested for being forced to hide a body by some criminal.
