Hello chair and committee members my name is Ruby Washington and my bill is HF3157, SF3191 Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities funding provided for workforce development services, and money appropriated. The central issue associated with my bill is funding towards the union gospel mission program.
Did you know that the union gospel mission twin cities provide more than 400,000 meals each year to hungry and homeless neighbors , poor families, veterans, and seniors on limited incomes. Another important statistic you should know is youth are disproportionately affected relative to their population, making up nearly half of the homeless (46%) and in Minnesota 13,300 unaccompanied youth experience homelessness over the course of a year which are our future generations what make up or society’s And myself having faced homelessness when i was a young, an organization that could have helped me and my family personally would have done a lot for me and my family as we got back up.
The bill HF3157, SF3191 is a bill relating to workforce development and appropriating money to the union gospel mission. A goal this bill represents is for $500,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $500000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from the workforce development fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development for a grant to union gospel mission twin cities to continue to provide and improve adult education and workforce development services for adults facing homelessness including GED,ESL,job readiness, and financial literacy, as well as support services to remove barriers to employment including clothing ,transportation, and child care.
The union gospel mission changes lives; they serve men, women, and children facing homelessness, poverty, and or addiction with the generous help that they receive from donors and volunteers they meet the basic needs for food and shelter but do so much more for example they make disciples through the love of Christ and if you wondered yes union gospel mission is a Christian organization but i want it to be known that this amazing organization is not specific on what you are or believe in but instead how they can help you and others who may be in need and the funding from this bill is meant to help and support all. Since the founding of their mission in 1902 they have learned the very best ways to get men, women and families off the streets through their time-tested and effective recovery, education, and job training programs. The union gospel mission is for everyone and they serve children through senior adults as well as their holiday meals reach even more people in need in the community. The union gospel mission twin cities provided 10000 thanksgiving grocery bags and served a hot thanksgiving meal to thousands more who attended their thanksgiving day meal service in 2025 wouldn’t you want to be a part of such an organization that’s able to give Minnesota twin cities homeless a comfortable thanksgiving meal and a better life you can do this through help the HF3157,SF3191 bill for union gospel mission twin cities funding.
