Essay
Hi my name is Janaé, I am 16 and I go to Harding senior highschool.
The homeless youth act grants funding, provides money and appropriate resources.
I am introducing this bill because the homeless rate increased 10% from 2023 to 2024. While the average rate is 18%. Going down 8% is really good, though I believe we need our rate to be less than 5%. Minnesota is filled with so many homeless people to the point where our state can’t afford it all. That's because the government wants to have the money to themselves though when they should be expanding to homeless people the people who really need the help. That’s really disappointing due to us being the land of the free.
Why is this bill important
This bill is important because in order for us to be the land of the free, we shouldn't leave anyone behind. Though we all have our different challenges, I believe money will have a great impact for everyone. Money is the key source to get by through this life. If we don't get the resources we need, how can we live the so-called American dream?
How could you take action for this bill
Currently there are already some actions taken at hand. For example there is this organization called ‘Open your heart’. This is an organization that helps the homeless rate go down by giving food and helping people find homes. For me, instead of waiting for people to come get food, I would go around the cities passing out food and handing out flyers for shelter. I can help them attend jobs where they can get money from their own hard work. I can't do it by myself, but I know that there are people out there who have been through situations where they couldn't afford food, a place to sleep and they might have kids. Sometimes you have to go through it to understand the struggle. So I will take this bill to action by going to cities around Minnesota, and soon we will get to other states. If we can put a lil more effort into it, within 15 years everyone should be able to live their own American dream.
How would this help the problem
Slowly but surely, we will soon accomplish our goal which is to have less than 5% of homelessness. The more we take action the bigger the business grows. When the business grows we are able to help more people and bring down that homeless rate.
My conclusion is that all of us, even people without food, homes or jobs, should all have equity.
