My bill is for an act relating to education in means of requiring parental notification of adverse incidents. This bill's purpose is to inform parents of a student that may be in a situation in which they are being harmed or hurt, including physical or verbal fighting. This bill can ensure safety for students, build proper follow up and support, as well as it can build better communication with parents.
Requiring parental notification of adverse incidents can play an important role in preventing fighting among students. With this bill, it can prevent students from ending up in conflicts that involve fighting or anymore verbal abuse/bullying, but most importantly that they won't have to deal with it alone. With parents having knowledge of something that can risk their child from being harmed, the student will more likely turn to them as a means to solve the problem and prevent the conflict from ongoing. Even if the child does not find themselves to come forward to their parents, the parents have an understanding of what their child is going through and can help support them from being in any harm.
Throughout the year of 2025, schools over the state of Minnesota have fights break out, and with proper follow up and parental notification, fights can be prevented. When fighting happens in schools, it is intervened after the outbreak has happened, but this bill can be a way to intervene before the fight or bullying even happens and create a much safer environment for students.
With this bill, communication with parents of students and the school can grow. They can build school connections with families and also build an overall safer school environment. With parents and the school working together in order to keep students safer, students will feel more supported by the adults and are more likely to handle things properly instead of resulting to violence and risk of harm to both themselves and others.
My bill addresses preventing students from being in any adverse incidents by requiring parental notification. My bill will solve the problem of students being in any adverse situations by providing them with proper follow up and support from parents and the school to prevent any harm that could be affected onto the student, like prevent a fight from breaking out or stop bullying.
