Essay
The bill I chose is HF5249, a bill that will prohibit the Homeowners Association from limiting the right to display any flag. The HOA should not be able to limit any flag someone can display because this infringes on people’s rights to free speech, which is protected by the first amendment. People should be able to express their beliefs and opinions in ways that they see fit, which, for many people, can be done through displaying flags on their property. Furthermore, people are displaying these flags on their private property, a place they own, and should therefore be free to express themselves in said place. If this bill is passed, it will secure people’s rights to express themselves freely on their property, which is already protected by the first amendment, and this bill would simply reinforce that protection.
