Essay
Hello chair and committee members, my name is Kasia Lee and my bill is about not adding additional fluoride to public drinking water, also known as bill HF3237. Fluoride is a mineral that helps keep drinking water regulated and safe for our teeth but too much of it can do the complete opposite of that. Prolonged exposure to fluoride can make it build up in the bones and teeth which can cause tooth decay which then leads to rotting teeth and fallout along with weak bones and joint problems in older individuals. I have a younger sister who is currently 12 years old and her wisdom tooth is growing in and she cries not because of the pain but the fear of going to the dentist and having to get it pulled out which is something that might happen to individuals with bad oral health from too much fluoride exposure. Also related to that, a study conducted by the National Health Institute found that 60% of children around the age of 6 have already been exposed to highly toxic amounts of fluoride and we know what prolonged exposure to it in toxic amounts can lead to.
Now, this bill doesn’t want to completely remove fluoride from our drinking water, it just wants proper regulations enforced to ensure that not too much is added and that our water is regularly checked and inspected to make sure we’re drinking the best of the best water we can find.
Help me pass this bill so that our elders or our younger siblings or even future children will not have to suffer from fluoride toxicity and helping us prevent many bone and teeth related issues in the future. You will be making a change and keeping the future healthy if you stand with me on this. Thank you.
