The bill i am representing is a bill to establish a task force to prevent female genital mutilation short for FGM, some of you might be wondering what FGM is, FGM is the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia and is considered a violation of the human rights of women and girls, FGM is a world wide issue that is being passed on from generation to generation, Research has found that the most effective, FGM-Free ceremonies are still those facilitated by the Soweis. This practice has lasted for centuries and has gradually become part of the broader population, most FGM practices in minnesota are being performed by the Somali-and Dawoodi Bohra communities, even tho FGM is illlegal in Minnesota some cmmunities still perform these practice in secret, some parents even go to an extant to send their kids to a whole different country to perform FGM, most of the victims of FGM either died from loss of blood or had medical issues, FMG is a cruel practice that needs to be stoped. Me myself have some family members that has been through FMG and it’s just a traumatizing experience to go through, I wouldn’t want any of my kids to go through such thing, so By creating a task force and providing resources, my bill aims to improve the coordination of efforts, research, and services to stop the practice of FGM. the task force would be responsible for. Developing strategies for prevention and education, raising public awareness abut the harms of FGM, providing resources to protect children/victims, the bill would include funding for the task forces operations and activities, this funding should be 2.5million per year.
