A bill for an act. House File 5473 is about removing the state veterans cemetery burial fee for spouses and independents of eligible veterans. This would grant up to $100,000 to any organization approved by the Commissioner of Veteran Affairs to support and improve the lives of veterans and their families. The burial allowance helps the family defray burial and funeral costs.
This bill is a stress reliever to the independents who lost their loved ones or one who qualified as a veteran. So upon death the independent doesn’t have to spend a significant amount of money. With the situation financially the state should be able to cover it with no issues or problems.
With the help of the VA, it would make the expenses even more eligible. So the state and VA can both pitch in money to cover the expenses and fees. For this to all happen though the surviving spouse needs to be eligible.
The possible negatives of this bill is if the people of the state have to pay for the fees in taxes. Not every spouse may be eligible and cause a fuss about it. There could be some sort of fraud in this bill too. Their may be a point where to many veterans die nd the system can not keep up with it.
