Essay
The bill I chose is prohibiting the sale of human remains for commercial purposes. This is bill wants to ban the ability to sell human remains for commercial purposes. Which is something I agree with. I don’t think you should be able to sell human remains for a profit. If someone has it on their identification card that they are an organ donor then they can donate for no profit. Someone shouldn’t be able to profit off of a deceased human who has no control over what happens to them.
If you sell remains you will receive a penalty the remains include, the calcified parts of a human body, cremated remains, or hydrolyzed remains, but excludes isolated teeth. The selling of human remains is a felony and any person found guilty of selling the remains is guilty of violating the law and they will face serious consequences. They could end up going to prison, which is depended upon Minnesota's sentencing guidelines for said felony. Which I think that if you are knowingly going out of your away to make money that can end up with you being a convicted felon you deserve to face the penalties given to you. You know it is against the law so why would you do it? Their are plenty of job opportunities out there where you can make money.
There are a many different ways people go about selling human remains while trying not get caught. There are unregulated underground markets where they sell remains without proper authorization. Which they often do through personal networks. People often try to sell human remains through online networks which ultimately leads to getting caught. If authorities are told where to look they will find it. Some antique shops might unknowingly sell remains or artifacts that are improperly sourced, leading to legal issues if the provenance is questionable. There has been rising cases where people will keep remains as collectables and preserve them in jars. They keep them for curiosities or even oddities. Some use them just to find out more about them. I find that very weird but it is still frowned upon. If you want to learn more about something look it up for take a human anatomy class to learn more about it. You don’t need to keep literal human remains to do so.
They only thing I wrong with this bill is it doesn’t specify whether it includes when people donate there body or not. If you donate your body to science and another place buys it from where the body got donated to but it is documented would they still get into legal trouble? That is the question that needs to be answered in the bill. The bill does not give much information, and it is hard to find more information about.
