The bill I have chosen is for the Minnesota professional sports team foundation to have special license plates established. The plate has the option of any of the Minnesota sports teams and has requirements and procedures to get the plates. There are different designs and transfers that you can get for the plate. There are also contributions and fees that need to be collected and date that this bill becomes effective. Some negatives are that cops may not be able to fully tell the state or be able to read the plate as easily.
There are 6 different types of designs you can get with the teams being; Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx, Wild, Twins, or the United. To get the plate you gotta be a registered owner of a passenger automobile, non commercial one-ton pickup, truck, motorcycle, etc. You will have to pay an additional fee for the registration tax, the fees required under this chapter, and contribute a minimum of $30 annually to the Professional Sports Teams Foundation account. You must also comply with the chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles and licensing of driving.
You must get a suitable player design incorporating the Sports teams foundation marks and colors. You could adapt a single suitable plate design incorporating the foundation marks and colors of all foundations that have requested a plate. You have to pay $5 to get the plate transfer as well as be qualified under subdivision. The plates also must be registered to the same individual to whom the past plates were originally issued to.
The contributions and fees that need to be credited are that the money must be deposited into the Minnesota Professional Sports Teams Foundation account which is established in a special revenue fund. Money in the account is appropriated to the commissioner of public safety. This appropriation is first for the annual cost of administering the account funds, and the remaining funds are for distribution to the foundations in proportion to the total number of plates issued for that year. Proceeds from a plate that includes the marks and colors of all foundations must be divided evenly between all foundations. The foundations must only use the proceeds for philanthropic or charitable purposes. The bill will become effective on January 1, 2024, for Minnesota professional sports teams plates issued on or after that date.
It could be harder to know the state the plate is from because it does say the state but it's kinda a different color according to the color of the sports team on the plate. It also could be harder to read the page because of the colors and the darker letters and numbers on the plate. The cops could have trouble reading a plate if they are chasing someone or on the look out for someone that committed a crime and they couldn't find them because of the design of the plate.
