We need in home healthcare workers for the individuals that can still do alot but just need a little more guidance. As Nurseregistry states “Home Health care is ideal for patients recovering from illnesses or surgeries, as well as those managing chronic conditions.” it’s really important for us to have nurses who are willing to do this job. They often times don’t get paid as much as nurses that work in hospitals.
A rate increase for home care nurses is a big subject in the world. Many home care nurses give up time at their own homes to go and help others. Sometimes staying days on end to care for these people in need. As Margolis Bloom & D’agostino says “The low wages and risky work combine to reduce the supply of workers which ultimately reduces the quality of care.” Without increasing wages people will dread going to their jobs and in the long run we will lose health care workers.
Spending requirements for home care nursing is another thing. 80 percent of the pay increase must be used to increase compensation-related costs for employees directly employed by the provider such as Medicare taxes, state and federal taxes, and a fraction of employers' health and dental insurance. Nurseregistry says “Private duty nursing, however, may not always be covered by insurance, and out-of-pocket costs can be higher” I think it's super important to provide healthcare workers with these benefits, especially because there is a shortage of healthcare workers, and I feel this would bring more in.
Some negatives of this bill are the government most likely can’t afford to pay nurses more money. According to Incredible Health, “These nurses are either employed by hospitals or work for independent agencies.” With that being said if someone were employed by an independent agency they wouldn’t necessarily get paid an hourly salary. They could get compensated hourly and also provided with living arrangements.
