1.2          relating to economic development; appropriating money for a grant to Minnesota
1.3          Sports and Events.
1.4          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5          Section 1. MINNESOTA SPORTS AND EVENTS; APPROPRIATION.
1.6        $....... in fiscal year 2025 is appropriated from the general fund to the director of Explore
1.7          Minnesota Tourism for a grant to Minnesota Sports and Events. Of this amount, $6,000,000
1.8          is for costs related to the World Junior Hockey Championships, which will occur in
1.9          Minnesota in December of 2025 and January of 2026. This appropriation is available until
1.10       June 30, 2029. The base amount in fiscal years 2026 and 2027 is $....... each year.

Beyond just covering the event costs, this funding is important because it will create jobs, attract visitors, and bring more tourists to the state. It will also help support local businesses like hotels and restaurants. This funding will not only help the event succeed but it will boost Minnesota's economy in the long run and show that Minnesota can host major international events.
The funding will improve Minnesota’s public services for the World Junior Hockey Tournament and future events.
