1.1          A bill for an act
1.2          relating to energy; appropriating money to construct a geothermal energy system.
1.3          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.4          Section 1. APPROPRIATION; GEOTHERMAL ENERGY SYSTEM.
 1.5        (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779, subdivision 1, paragraph (j),
1.6          $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2024 and $4,000,000 in fiscal year 2025 are appropriated from
1.7          the renewable development account established in Minnesota Statutes, section 116C.779,
1.8          subdivision 1, to the commissioner of commerce for a grant to the Sabathani Community
1.9          Center in Minneapolis to construct a geothermal energy system that provides space heating
1.10       and cooling to the center.
1.11       (b) For the purposes of this section, "geothermal energy system" means a system
1.12       composed of: a heat pump that moves a heat-transferring fluid through piping embedded
1.13       in the earth and absorbs the earth's constant temperature; a heat exchanger; and ductwork
1.14       to distribute heated and cooled air to a building.

1.15       EFFECTIVE DATE. This section is effective the day following final enactment.
