1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to state government; allowing ranking minority members of standing
1.3 legislative committees to request fiscal notes;amending Minnesota Statutes 2022,
1.4 section 3.98, subdivisions 1, 3.
1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 3.98, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
1.7 Subdivision 1.Preparation; duties. (a) The head or chief administrative officer of each
1.8 department or agency of the state government, including the supreme court, shall prepare
1.9 a fiscal note consistent with the standards and procedures adopted under section 3.8853, at
1.10 the request of the chair or ranking minority member of the standing committee to which a
1.11 bill has been referred, or the chair of the house of representatives Ways and Means
1.12 Committee, or the chair or ranking minority member of the senate Committee on Finance.
1.13 (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "supreme court" includes all agencies, committees,
1.14 and commissions supervised or appointed by the state supreme court or the state court
1.15 administrator.
1.16 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 3.98, subdivision 3, is amended to read:
1.17 Subd. 3.Distribution. A copy of the fiscal note shall be delivered to the chair of the
1.18 Ways and Means Committee of the house of representatives, the chair of the Finance
1.19 Committee of the senate, the chair and ranking minority member of the standing committee
1.20 to which the bill has been referred, to the chief author of the bill, and to the commissioner
1.21 of management and budget.
