1.2 relating to environment; prohibiting the sale of nonelectric powered lawn and
1.3 garden equipment;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter
1.4 325F.
1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. [325F.187] FOSSIL FUEL POWERED LAWN AND GARDEN
1.7 EQUIPMENT; PROHIBITION.
1.8 (a) On and after January 1, 2025, new lawn and garden equipment sold, offered for sale,
1.9 or distributed in or into Minnesota must be powered solely by electricity.
1.10 (b) For the purposes of this section, the following terms have the meanings given:
1.11 (1) "lawn and garden equipment" means any of the following types of equipment powered
1.12 by a spark ignition engine rated at or below 19 kilowatts or 25 gross horsepower:
1.13 (i) lawnmower;
1.14 (ii) leaf blower;
1.15 (iii) hedge clipper;
1.16 (iv) chainsaw;
1.17 (v) lawn edger;
1.18 (vi) string trimmer; or
1.19 (vii) brushcutter; and
2.1 (2) "spark ignition engine" means an internal combustion engine in which the air-fuel
2.2 mixture is ignited by a spark.
2.3 EFFECTIVE DATE. This section is effective the day following final enactment.
