1.1          A bill for an act
1.2          relating to education policy; allowing for American Indian drumming in public
1.3          schools;amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 124D.792; proposing coding
1.4          for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 124D.
1.5          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6          Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 124D.792, is amended to read:
1.7          124D.792 GRADUATION CEREMONIES; TRIBAL REGALIA AND OBJECTS
1.8          OF CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE; DRUMMING.
1.9          (a) A school district or charter school must not prohibit an American Indian student from
1.10       wearing American Indian regalia, Tribal regalia, or objects of cultural significance at a
1.11       graduation ceremony.
1.12       (b) If requested by the school's American Indian parent committee or an American Indian
1.13       student organization, a school district or charter school must allow American Indian
1.14       drumming at a graduation ceremony.

1.15       Sec. 2. [124D.793] AMERICAN INDIAN DRUMMING.
1.16       If requested by the school's American Indian parent committee, a school district or
1.17       charter school must allow American Indian drumming.
