1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to education finance; appropriating money to Independent School District
1.3 No. 99, Esko, for American Indian mascot removal and replacement costs.
1.4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 99,
1.6 ESKO; AMERICAN INDIAN MASCOT REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT COSTS.
1.7 Subdivision 1.Department of Education. The sum indicated in this section is
1.8 appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education in the fiscal year
1.9 designated.
1.10 Subd. 2.Independent School District No. 99, Esko; American Indian mascot removal
1.11 and replacement costs. (a) To Independent School District No. 99, Esko, for American
1.12 Indian mascot removal and replacement costs to comply with Minnesota Statutes, section
1.13 121A.041:
1.15 (b) The commissioner must reimburse the school district for the costs of removing and
1.16 replacing an American Indian mascot on school facilities and equipment, including athletic
1.17 uniforms, clocks, school signage, tribute markers, chairs, tables, entryway flooring,
1.18 gymnasium flooring, athletic field artificial turf, and gymnasium wall mats. To be eligible
1.19 for reimbursement, an expense must have been incurred by the school district on or after
1.20 June 1, 2023.
1.21 (c) This appropriation is available until June 30, 2026. This is a onetime appropriation.
