We should pass this bill for the betterment of our state because it increases the penalties for evil crimes, like labor and sex trafficking. Nobody likes people who forcefully move others to do things they don’t want. So they should be punished as much as we will give them. This bill increases the punishment in years of imprisonment and the fines that are due for committing these crimes.
This bill also bans sanctuary cities, which allows for the government to successfully pursue people who have illegally immigrated here. The government cannot pursue illegal immigrants in any way within these cities, which hinders immigration policy being enforced as a whole. This bill aims to ban the existence of these cities, which will then improve the enforcement of these policies.
Another thing this bill covers is the employment of unauthorized individuals. It says that no employer shall knowingly employ any person who does not have the legal right to work within the United States. This requires them to have completed the process of gaining legal access to work before obtaining employment. And, the business must also confirm they have this right before employing them.
With all these things stated, there may be a few negatives encountered with these sections. The humanitarian aspect of the second section. It will no longer give sanctuary to anyone within any city in all of Minnesota. That may seem unfair to people who would like a place where they can escape the immigration officers for some time while they figure out what they must do. They may have just fled from their home and traveled thousands of miles to get here. And the immigration wants to take them in for questioning, I wouldn’t want to do that any more than they do.
